What’s AGC Glass?

In today’s display-driven world, the 1mm AGC glass role as glass substrate for cover glass stands out as the perfect balance between ultra-slim design and screen protection. Developed by Asahi Glass Company, this advanced glass technology offers superior performance for touchscreen devices across industries. Unlike thicker alternatives, the 1mm AGC glass maintains exceptional durability without compromising on sensitivity or clarity.

To AGC glass substrate, it’s a kind of soda lime glass, this kind of glass is a cheaper substrate option for cover glass, the hardness is 6H and a little greenish view from edge.

As contrast, aluminosilicate glass is a higher cost substrate option for cover glass, the hardness is around 7-9H depends on different brands(Panda, Dragon Tail, Gorila) and white view from edge.

Cutting(rough shape):

Automatic cutting base on  internal CAD file with diamond unit.

CNC processing(final shapes):

Edge grinding & chamferring, different kinds of edges available(below), hole drilling(minimum 1mm) and slottigminimum 2-3mm).

Tempering(Glass hardened):

For 3mm above, we recommend thermal tempering(Safety glass + cheaper option).

For 3mm below, we recommend chemically strengthening(Better flatness and optical performance).

Silk screen print(Pattern coloring):

For thermal tempering cover glass, both low temperature ink and ceramic ink applicable.

For chemical strengthening cover glass, low temperature ink will be needed(Outdoor purpose for UV resistance ink).

Coatings(3A):

AR(Anti reflection), it’s a kind of electroplating layer to improve light transmittance(single side increase 3-4%).

To cover glass, it usually 91% above(depends on different substrates). If both side applied it will be up to 99%.

Now, lots of optical parts and consumer electronics(especially viechle display screen) applied, but there also different color tones in different spectral bands.

AF(Anti fingerprint) sometimes used individually and sometimes together with AR coating.

The principle of AF coating is lotus effect. The nano micro-structure on the glass surface forms a superhydrophobic layer, making water and oil bead up and roll off easily.

Since AR coating can be peel off easy, the AF coating can protect this layer well.

There are 2 kinds of coatings treatments including spray(cheap but less durable) and electroplating(expensive but more durable) depend on touch frequency.

AG(Anti glare), it offers premium appearance and used especially outdoor application for anti glare purpose.

There are several kinds of treatments including acid etching, film and printing, but acid etching is the most durable and frequent method.

Bonding(Tapes):

We usually use 3M brand tapes including adhesive transfer tape, VHB tape and OCA tape.

Different brands like Tesa depends on your requirement.

A1: You can simply tell your actual application, budget and use condition to us, we will recommend the correct coatings, parameters and treatment methods.

Q2:What kind of glass substrate should be selected?

A2: Less budget and less requirement on hardness: Soda lime glass(Brand like AGC, hardness 6H).

Accept higher cost, high requiment on hardness & optical performance: Aluminosilicate(Panda, Dragon Tail, Gorilla, hardness 8-9H).
