cover glass quality inspection

Cover Glass Quality Control for OEM Production

Quality control is an important part of our custom cover glass manufacturing process. We inspect cover glass throughout production to help ensure that dimensions, appearance, surface quality, printing, machining, and other customer-specified requirements are consistently controlled.

Our inspection process can be applied to chemically strengthened glass, aluminosilicate glass, soda-lime glass, tempered glass, and other custom cover glass products. Inspection requirements can be defined according to customer drawings, technical specifications, approved samples, and application requirements.

Dimensional Inspection

Dimensional accuracy is important when cover glass must fit a display housing, control panel or electronic assembly. Depending on the product design, inspection requirements may include overall length and width, glass thickness, hole diameter, cut-out location and edge dimensions.

Customers should specify critical tolerances on their drawings rather than relying on general descriptions such as precision cutting. Where several openings or mounting features are involved, their positions and relationships to the reference edges should also be clearly defined.

Appearance Inspection

Glass surfaces are inspected for visible defects such as scratches, chips, cracks, stains, bubbles, contamination, and other appearance issues according to the agreed inspection criteria.

Edge & CNC Inspection

Processed edges, holes, notches, slots, cutouts, and CNC-machined features are checked against the required dimensions and drawings.

Printing Inspection

Silk screen printing is inspected for position, color, border dimensions, logo or graphic alignment, and overall appearance according to approved samples or specifications.

Surface Treatment Inspection

For products with AG, AR, AF, or other surface treatments, inspection requirements can include surface appearance and application-specific optical or functional specifications.

Glass Strengthening Inspection

For chemically strengthened or thermally tempered glass, inspection requirements can be defined according to the specified strengthening process and customer technical requirements.

Final Inspection and Packaging Requirements

Final inspection requirements should be established according to the drawing, order specifications and agreed acceptance criteria. Depending on the project, this may include dimensional verification, visual inspection, review of printing and surface treatment, and checks for handling damage before packing.

Packaging requirements also matter for glass components because edge damage, surface contact and movement during transport can affect the delivered product. Customers should communicate any special separation, protective-film or packaging requirements before production.

Prepare Your OEM Glass Inspection Requirements

To help review your project, please provide available drawings, glass thickness, critical dimensions and tolerances, cut-out details, printing artwork, coating requirements and intended application.

If your project requires inspection records or specific test results, identify those requirements during the quotation stage. The applicable inspection methods and deliverables should be confirmed before an order is placed.

Contact WM Cover Glass to discuss your custom glass requirements and request a review based on your drawings and specifications.

Cover Glass Quality Control Process

Our quality control process can include inspection at different stages of custom cover glass production:

1. Incoming Material Inspection
Check incoming glass materials and related production materials according to the required specifications.

2. In-Process Inspection
Monitor dimensions, machining, printing, strengthening, cleaning, and other processing stages according to the production requirements.

3. Appearance & Dimensional Inspection
Check finished glass for appearance, dimensions, edges, holes, cutouts, and other critical features.

4. Functional & Optical Inspection
Where required, inspect specified optical or functional characteristics according to the customer's technical requirements.

5. Final Inspection & Packaging
Complete final inspection before packaging and shipment according to the agreed quality standards.
